Resumo (EN) Mutilated lmages - Mediatic Rea/ities and lnvisibilities aims at analyzing the creation, manipulation and disclosure of certain realities, while analyzing how the concealment, subtraction and invisibility of other realities occur within the mass media - and, consequently, in the collective imagination. The research takes as its starting point the use of photographs of victims of landmines mainly in two issues of large publications in the Brazilian print media (the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo and the Revista O Globo) and in the two most important international specialist publications on the subject (Landmine Monitor and The Journal of ERW and Mine Action). This paper is intended to analyze the effects that the images of Latin American victims of mines, ar rather their absence, in the mass media publications and in the specialized media cause in the creation of the collective imagination about this matter in Latin Amarica. From this point on, the dissertation seeks to explore other "invisible" realities, in arder to try to understand their "mediatic flaws" and trace possible strategies for including them in the information flows that make up the current media sphere.
Resumo (PT) “Imagens Mutiladas – Realidades e Invisibilidades Midiáticas” tem por objetivo analisar a criação, manipulação e divulgação de determinadas realidades e, por outro lado, como se dá a ocultação, subtração e invisibilidade de outras realidades nos meios de comunicação em massa e, por consequência, no imaginário coletivo. A pesquisa tomou como ponto de partida o uso das fotografias de vítimas de minas terrestres, principalmente as publicadas em dois exemplares de grandes veículos da mídia impressa brasileira (o jornal “Folha de S.Paulo” e a revista “O Globo”) e nas duas mais importantes publicações internacionais especializadas no assunto (“Landmine Monitor” e “The Journal of ERW and Mine Action”). O trabalho pretendeu analisar os efeitos que as imagens de vítimas latino-americanas de minas, ou mais propriamente a sua ausência, nos veículos de comunicação em massa e na mídia especializada têm na criação do imaginário coletivo sobre essa problemática na América Latina. A partir daí, buscou-se explorar outras realidades “invisíveis”, de modo a tentar entender suas “falhas midiáticas” e traçar possíveis estratégias para inseri-las nos fluxos de informação que compõem a mediosfera atual.
